From Sketch to Sew - Inspirations behind the SS20 collection

Ever wonder how a fashion collection starts to unfold? Here we share the behind-the-scenes process of our most recent SS20 collection - a collection bursting with vibrant prints and colours, chic silhouettes perfect for a laidback Sunday brunch or a romantic dinner date. Join us as we discover the inspirations behind this collection with some never-before-seen mood board and sketches!

Every collection starts with a mood board. Staying true to the our East-meets-West aesthetic, each collection has inspirations from both sides of the globe. For SS20, Emma draws inspiration from the regality and history of the Forbidden City in Beijing, reflected in these images of exquisite architecture. You may notice immediately the mix of statement touches from the heady 70’s of the West, the unconventional silhouettes that exude a hint of vintage glamour and disco dancefloor. Now connect the dots and spot these references in the pieces!

So, how does it translate to our clothing? First up are the details in the prints and embellishments! As you may know, we LOVE prints here at Emma Wallace so this season we have 2 featured motifs – the stripe print and the khaki circle print. They are both buoyant reinterpretations of the magnificent roofing structure and motifs painted within the Forbidden City. For embellishments, we have a playful spin on the imperial patterns in the form of embroidery. These whimsical little embroideries will add a touch of retro appeal to your styling.

Take cues from Emma’s sketches for tips on styling your Emma Wallace look! Illustrating the overall look and feel gives an idea of how the collection is curated to fit together seamlessly.

Every collection communicates a story, a message of empowerment and inspiration to all of our #EmmaWallaceWoman. Putting together a collection is a labour of love but seeing so many strong women from around the world feel confident in our clothing is the most motivating feeling ever!

Thanks for being an #EmmaWallaceWoman! xox
