Every collection starts with a mood board. Staying true to the our East-meets-West aesthetic, each collection has inspirations from both sides of the globe. For SS20, Emma draws inspiration from the regality and history of the Forbidden City in Beijing, reflected in these images of exquisite architecture. You may notice immediately the mix of statement touches from the heady 70’s of the West, the unconventional silhouettes that exude a hint of vintage glamour and disco dancefloor. Now connect the dots and spot these references in the pieces!
So, how does it translate to our clothing? First up are the details in the prints and embellishments! As you may know, we LOVE prints here at Emma Wallace so this season we have 2 featured motifs – the stripe print and the khaki circle print. They are both buoyant reinterpretations of the magnificent roofing structure and motifs painted within the Forbidden City. For embellishments, we have a playful spin on the imperial patterns in the form of embroidery. These whimsical little embroideries will add a touch of retro appeal to your styling.
