The 2020 Fashion Trends You Need To Know

A new decade is dawning and we’re taking it as an opportunity for a wardrobe refresh!

As we say out with the old, we’re looking to the catwalk trends of 2020 to inspire us for the upcoming season.

Here are the key fashion trends to keep an eye out for to ensure you hit the New Year in style.

Trench Coats

A wardrobe staple, the trench is the epitome of ease and sophistication! Over the last few seasons we’ve seen designers revamp this classic in unexpected fabrics, asymmetrical cuts and much more. This trend shows no signs of slowing down with everyone from Lowe to Coach showcasing new edits of this outerwear on their SS20 runways.

Embroidery

Dior led the way with a stunning array of floral embroidery adding luxe touches to the collection, whilst Alexander McQueen, Erdem and Kate Spade transformed broderie anglaise and lace using irregular embroidery for a fresh take that added intrigued.

Prints

Eye catching prints stole the show on the SS20 runways. Earth mother femininity reigned supreme at Christopher Kane with dainty florals covering overcoats and leafy prints adorning ruffled skirts, whilst jubilant ‘70s tinged looks at Louis Vuitton made a bold retro statement. Clashing prints across the board helped to bring some drama to the catwalk, delivering the ultimate masterclass in maximalism.

Shorts

A look that dominated the Copenhagen shows (one of the coolest spots around) was long shorts, with Ganni, Stand and Mykke Hoffmann all showcasing the wearable trend! A city with its finger on the pulse of what’s cool, this wardrobe hero looks set to continue dominating in 2020. Wearable and comfy with a chic flair, shorts are the ultimate item for the woman who loves to go on an adventure and needs a look that can take her anywhere!

Flat Shoes

Comfort made a surprising return to the catwalks, with the likes of Chanel showcasing formal looks with a flat shoe. From Mary Janes to sandals, heels were shunned for something a little more grounded. For those who prefer a lift, flatforms took to the floor at Erdem and Simone Rocha. The perfect shoes for when you want to wander off the beaten track and don’t want to worry about your feet hurting!
